Srinagar, Jan 01 (KNO): A surprise vigilance check on a train from Srinagar to Mata Vaishno Devi Katra led to the detection of cash irregularities and ticketless passengers, resulting in recovery of Rs 46,960 in undeclared and penalised amounts.
“A vigilance check was conducted on Train No. 26402 running from SINA (Srinagar) to SVDK (Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra) between BAHL (Banihal) and SVDK. During the course of the check, several irregularities were detected,” reads a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
It reads, during the inspection, excess and undeclared Government cash amounting to rupees 10,830/- was found in possession of on-duty ticket checking staff. In addition, 33 passengers were detected travelling without proper tickets in various manned coaches.
“An amount of Rs 36,130/- was realised from these passengers towards fare and penalty. The vigilance action resulted in immediate recovery of the government revenue and highlighted the effectiveness of vigilance checks in curbing ticketless travel and ensuring financial discipline in passenger train operations.”
The statement also said the vigilance check was carried out by a team from NR Vigilance, Baroda House, comprising Prince Sethi, Samar, Sandeep Kumar and Ajit Kumar Tripathi—(KNO)
